I have to admit, it is pretty sickening to know that this campaign was successfully funded using the donations from Wii U owners yet they will never even be able to play the game on a Nintendo console. What makes it even worse is that practically all development has now focused on literally every device but the one it was originally intended for meaning that the folks who funded it pretty much just gave a huge loan to the developers to make their dreams come true on consoles that were not even mentioned.
At this point, the developers care only about money and presenting something else entirely and on two entirely different consoles to boot; Nintendo fans were used specifically as a lender, not an investor, or even thought about as a consumer for the final product. I guarantee you that we will not be getting the game that we were promised to be delivered almost a year ago.
Serious question: Anyway to sue these guys for breaking their contract with the people who funded them or is it just "screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me"?
Latest update on Kickstarter suggests the Wii U version is gonna be canned in favor of the NX. That's a huge disappointment. Reasoning seems more so to be because they think the Wii U version could "bankrupt" them if people move on the NX. That's an incredibly stupid excuse.
First off, It's not our fault the Kickstarter was 3 years ago now and the Developer's lolly-gagged to the point where the systems they wanted it out on are slowly getting out dated so don't punish us for it. The game was originally slated for release in 2014. Now it's 2016 and they've only just now managed to get the game to look like the initial Pitch video.
Second, the idea that people are suddenly going to abandon the Wii U once the NX is out and that Road Redemption could "Bankrupt" them if it's released on the Wii U is also bullshit and a complete over exaggeration. People aren't going to immediately jump ship as soon as the console is out and there will still be plenty of people buying and playing games on their Wii U. Nintendo has also said themselves the NX does not mean the end of the Wii U so they are making baseless assumptions.
They also compare themselves to Mighty No. 9 which is ridiculous. Besides that I think it's a low blow for various Kickstarters to cash in on Mighty No. 9's failure (not that it doesn't deserve the criticism), its a completely invalid comparison to make. Road Redemption was promised for PC/Mac/Linux, Wii U and Xbox 360. So work on those first before trying to get it to work on PS4 or Xbox One, systems that were never promised in the first place. Mighty No. 9 failed because of bad business decisions and poor leadership, which this all comes off as also.
"Physics and AI can be incredibly CPU-intensive, and we wanted to make Road Redemption as sophisticated as possible in these areas."
Seems like that is the problem here. Was Road Rash so memorable because of it's amazing Physics? No, it was memorable for being an incredibly fun game. I'd rather have stuff like Graphics and Physics compromised if that means the core game works, is fun, and is coming out on all the consoles it was initially promised for.
