It isn't impatience when you ask someone to account for why they fell short of their goals or to express displeasure when valid expectations have not been met. The last thing creative professionals need are over sensitive mollycoddling white knights. They need honest feedback and most people here who funded at or above the alpha access level are likely disappointed that it is now October and we still don't have an alpha build of this game on our systems. There is nothing wrong with expressing that and encouraging the team to provide the results they promised in return for our support.
This game is nearly a year away from official release, I know it will be far from complete and quite rough around the edges and possibly even prone to crashes. I am fine with all of that. I still have faith that the team is doing their best to make the game that both they and I have been waiting to play for over a decade now. When I read their updates and hear the passionate way they describe the various subsystems it fills me with hope for this game. They clearly had similar experiences with the old Road Rash games as I and they have the experience and expertise to see their vision through. But that doesn't change the fact that they are now late on at least one milestone at an early stage in the project, if the alpha is late we can expect each future stage to be even later. Accountability is just as important as getting a great game out the door.
the comment i made wasn't directed at you, per se. someone else said they are "pissed off" that the devs haven't said anything, when in fact they had made an announcement saying that they would at the end of september. so they're two days late. woopty doo.
i'm pretty sure the EXPECTED release date was September of this year. We were never given an exact release date. I can't get mad at a developer because they didn't meet the highest standard possible. I would expect, that in all the excitement of creating a game, they overestimated what they could get done. again, we weren't ever given a solid release date. and the update we received today said there will be an announcement about the alpha tomorrow. they told us a little while ago there would be an announcement about it at the end of this month. i think they're doing best to stick to their word. accusing someone of being sycophantic simply because they are reserving judgment is a little immature. have you ever developed a game, or closely followed a game being developed? how often do developers actually make all their marks? what about indie devs that have never released a game together? darkseas games was formed to make RR. for all we know right now, they met some kind of hump this month and need a little more time, and will have the alpha out mid october. is two weeks too much? i could be wrong, but i have just as much info as you do, and i don't see why you think i'm "mollycoddling." all i'm doing is reserving judgment at the very initial phase. if we don't see an alpha by the end of october then i will upset. but until they seem to be really missing the mark, i'm not going to make any assumptions.
